Ikea Hack: Stuva rack
My children wanted a place to display their Lego structures and crafts. Because we are already two Ikea Stuva cabinets and a Stuva box, I thought it would be good to keep that style. Incidentally, Ikea has now given the Stuva line a new look, personally I like the previous version better.
For starters I have drawn a rack in Sketchup, with the same thickness as the cabinet doors (15 mm) and the dimensions that fit exactly between the cabinets and under the TV. The back plate has overlap on the sides and under 2 cm, so I can fix the rack between the cabinets and the box without screwing.
After that I used Cutlist Optimizer to create a cutting plan and sawed the boards to size. I copied the same radius with a copy milling cutter and the front of a Stuva drawer that I still had lying around.
After all parts were ready, I assembled them with mounting kit and screws, while making sure that no screws are visible. After I primed the rack with MDF primer I painted it three times with Perfection RAL 9010 zijdeglans, which comes very close to the white color of the Stuva cabinets.
After that it was a matter of placing the rack between the cabinets and furnishing it.
